A cashmere throw blanket is a gift that you might have to buy yourself and everyone on your gift list to make this winter more cozy. There’s a color perfect for every home.
The Family Archery Set would be a fun gift for those with older kids and a house in the country

Spend more time outside with your family by buying them this Copper Footed Fire Pot. Include the ingredients for s’mores and they will love you forever.
The chicest person on your list would love The World of Federico Forquet: Italian Fashion, Interiors, Gardens about “the work of celebrated bon vivant Federico Forquet–whose decades-long design career has embraced couture fashion, elegant interiors, and imaginative gardens, reflecting both the best of Italian style and the dolce vita era of Rome.”
Keep your friends and family socially distanced outside but warm this winter with this Patio Heater. Outdoor heaters have been in hot demand and I can’t believe there are still some in stock. Get one before they’re gone.
Maileg bunnies and mice already make me wish I had kids but this Dollhouse is beyond adorable. Any little person in your life would be delighted with it this Christmas.
Cecil Beaton’s Cocktail Book “features a delightful array of recipes inspired by the decadent drinks of Beaton’s youth, and the fabulous friends and celebrities whom he photographed. Period classics such as the Hanky Panky, Manhattan, Negroni and Sidecar are given contemporary twists by the Head Bartender and Mixologist of the world famous Claridge’s Hotel in London, which played host to some of the most extravagant Bright Young gatherings.” It’s perfect for your friend who’s sad they can’t go to bars right now.
If you are giving or receiving jewelry this holiday, include this pretty Velvet Jewelry Box.
You can also help get them started on making repairs around the house with this Premium Nordic Toolbox.
For your grandmother who misses playing bride with her friends, buy her these chic Audubon Birds Bridge Playing Cards and have her teach you and your siblings how to play.
It feels like there have been so many auctions of exquisite collections in the last few years. It makes me feel sad to see them be broken up but hopefully the furniture and objects end up going to good homes. Susan Gutfreund sold her Henri Samuel decorated duplex apartment at 843 Fifth Avenue last year and now some of the best pieces from it are for sale at Christie’s. I toured the preview today and it was interesting to see everything out in the open. You can see my photos from Christie’s in my Instagram Stories. Some of the items will be in the live auction and others already have bid in the online auction. I especially loved the green Winter Garden room when I visited the apartment for a party in 2018. I don’t think I’ll be able to afford anything but it’s fun to dream.
American expat cookbook author Susan Herrmann Loomis has just released a new cookbook and it is good. Deliciously good. Plat du Jour: French Dinners Made Easy was just released on January 12th, and I excitedly welcomed it into my cookbook library.
Today, Susan returned to join me on the podcast to talk about her new cookbook. Sharing the inspiration for the book, the history of the phrase Plat du Jour, recipes to enjoy during the middle of winter, much more along with another Petit Plaisir that will remind us all how powerfully delicious waiting for something delicious can be.
Be sure to tune in to the audio version wherever you enjoy listening to podcasts, and below you will find links mentioned during our conversation. A tremendous thank you to Susan for joining me from Paris and whetting our appetites for delicious French food.
The first recipe tried and enjoyed from Susan’s cookbook – Curly Endive Salad with Hot Bacon and Goat Cheese (I substituted escarole for the endive). So good!
