Blue Wake™ Awards kick off MYS 2025

The first edition of the Blue Wake™ Awards will be held on Tuesday evening, September 23 at the Grand Opening Night of the Monaco Yacht Show, with the four-day superyacht event following on the Wednesday to Saturday (September 24-27).

Designed to reward the most operational, innovative and effective environmental sustainability solutions in the superyacht industry, the Awards are the highlight of the Blue Wake programme launched earlier this year by the Monaco Yacht Show with the support of the Water Revolution Foundation and sponsored by Siemens Energy.

The five categories (with nominees) include Luxury Products & Services (Foglizzo Leather, Tai Ping, Turnstyle Design), Nautical Supplier (AkzoNobel, Deasyl, Termodinamica), Refit / Builder Shipyard (Amico & Co, Baltic Yachts, Sanlorenzo) and Tenders / Water Toys (Evene, U-Boat Worx, Tykun). There’s also a Special Jury Award, rewarding a yacht exemplary in environmental sustainability.

This year’s jury comprises Gaëlle Tallarida (Managing Director, Monaco Yacht Show), Norberto Barlocco (Project Development, Siemens Energy), Francesca Webster (Editor-in-Chief, SuperYacht Times), Lucy Dunn (Content Director, Boat International), Dr Vienna Eleuteri (Initiator and Vice Chair, Water Revolution Foundation), Philippe Mondielli (Scientific Director, Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation) and Sara-Jane Skinner (Head of Partnerships, Blue Marine Foundation).

“The Blue Wake Awards embody the Monaco Yacht Show’s vision of making environmental sustainability a driver of excellence and innovation,” Tallarida said. “This year’s nominees are leading the way and inspiring the future of yachting.”

Organisers have been actively promoting the nearly 60 Blue Wake™-certified exhibitors at this year’s show. Italian builders Azimut, Benetti, Sanlorenzo, Rossinavi, Tankoa and Amer, Poland’s Sunreef and Conrad, Baltic Yachts of Finland, and Sirena of Turkey are among shipyards given the Blue Wake stamp.

Shipyards are accredited for focusing on bioclimatic structures, digitalisation of operations, renewable energy use or alternative propulsion. Among reasons given for their Blue Wake certification, organisers stated that Azimut and Benetti used HVO fuel for fleet trials, cutting over 75 per cent of CO2 emissions versus standard diesel (RED II).

Sanlorenzo, in partnership with Siemens Energy, is the first shipyard in the world to deliver a superyacht (50Steel) equipped with Reformer Fuel Cell systems powered by hydrogen obtained from green methanol for the generation of electricity.

Rossinavi’s Seawolf X, the 43m hybrid-electric catamaran that exhibited at last year’s Monaco Yacht Show, merges solar, battery and AI systems for luxury cruising with significantly reduced environmental impact. Tankoa’s Vitruvius models feature parallel hybrid propulsion, offering silent cruising, reduced emissions and impressive fuel savings with advanced battery packs.

Meanwhile, Amer’s new Gene.Sys is a digital passport tracking yacht materials and impact, ensuring transparency, ESG alignment and circular design.

Refit shipyards among Blue Wake exhibitors include Amico & Co, Cantiere Rossini, MB92 Group and Varador 2000 Shipyard & Marina Barcelona, while accredited tender builders include Evene, Frauscher, Nauma-Tec, SEAir and Xtenders.

AkzoNobel, a leader in yacht coatings, is among Blue Wake exhibitors, which represent a wide variety of sectors. These include hybrid, electric or renewable energy propulsion systems, on-board wastewater management, thermal optimisation, shore-power systems, sustainable interior design, handling and lifting equipment, recyclable shrink wraps, biological systems, and marina infrastructures.

Robert van Tol, Water Revolution Foundation’s Executive Director, said: “Blue Wake highlights MYS exhibitors that have been developing concrete, innovative eco-responsible solutions for the yachting sector over the past several years. Our mission is to ensure that only robust and operational initiatives are included in this programme, thereby guaranteeing the true credibility and viability of the solutions presented at the Monaco Yacht Show.

“The show plays a vital role in showcasing these efforts, reinforcing the collective commitment of the entire yachting industry towards a sustainable transition. Yet showcasing innovation is only half of the story. Real change happens when buyers choose to embrace and adopt these solutions in their new build and refit projects. That’s how we collectively move the yachting industry forward.”
