Tommy Hilfiger Charts a Strategic Course with Limited-Edition Hilfiger Sailing Collection

Tommy Hilfiger recently unveiled its Spring 2025 limited-edition Hilfiger Sailing Collection, comprised of a 22-piece capsule that introduces a fresh take on the brand’s nautical codes, paying homage to the brand’s deep-rooted connection to the sea.

As the brand celebrates its 40th anniversary, the “Hilfiger Sailing Collection” serves as both a creative and commercial pivot, reaffirming its position at the intersection of sport, style and legacy branding. Inspired by the adrenaline of sailing down the Hudson River, the capsule collection is the amalgamation of utilitarian functionality with Hilfiger’s signature modern “preppy” aesthetics — a deliberate nod to the brand’s historic marriage of American classicism and performance-led fashion. “Since the early ‘90s, our collections have captured the spirit of the sea,” says Tommy Hilfiger. “This collection is a tribute to that passion — a modern interpretation of our nautical heritage that remains true to the pioneering spirit of the brand,” he explains.

The capsule collection offers sailing enthusiasts and fashion-forward consumers alike a mix of reversible nylon deck coats, regatta jackets, fleece hoodies and signal flag-striped tees — each engineered with both functionality and form in mind. Traditional yachting symbols such as ropes, pulleys and maritime flags are subtly integrated, while the palette — rich reds, deep greens and crisp whites — delivers a refined coastal look. This updated visual language reinforces Tommy Hilfiger’s positioning within the elevated sport-luxury category — one that continues to resonate with global markets from Singapore to the Hamptons.

Tommy Hilfiger’s history with sailing is more than thematic. The designer’s foray into competitive sailing in 2003 paved the way for technical partnerships that have permeated seasonal collections since. His logo itself — inspired by international maritime signal flags — has become one of the fashion industry’s most recognisable emblems. Hilfiger notes that he “had the idea to speak the language of sailing, so we created a graphic treatment using my initials, TJH (Thomas Jacob Hilfiger), in maritime signal flags. That “flag” design became a defining part of our identity, instantly evoking classic Americana and a deep connection to the nautical world”.

The launch also dovetails with Tommy Hilfiger’s latest strategic sponsorship: the U.S. Sail GP Team, signalling a renewed focus on high-visibility global sport platforms. This alignment of heritage with sport sponsorship exemplifies how legacy brands can remain agile by tapping into lifestyle-driven marketing while honouring their own authentic roots.
The Hilfiger Sailing Collection is now available online at tommy.com and the TOMMY HILFIGER Raffles City store.
